If you want to complete the square on that, you do this:

x² - 6x - 9 = 0
x² - 6x = 9
x² - 6x + 9 = 9 + 9

x² - 6x + 9 = 18 is your equation. 

If you want, I can keep going:

(x - 3)² = 18

x - 3 = +/- √18
x - 3 = +/- 3√2

x = 3 +/- 3√2
