Both supported limited government role in the economy.
  Herbert, the president often blamed for doing nothing against depression  believed in a limited role for government and worried that excessive federal intervention posed a threat to capitalism and individualism. Reagan also believed in limited government role in the economy and thus did not initiate any welfare policy.
