for point slope form, we need a point and a slope to fill out the following equation:

In the perpendicular line, the slope is -2. To find a perpendicular slope, we take the negative reciprocal, or plug it in here:

so our slope is -1/(-2), or .5.

now we plug all of our values into the equation above, and get:

y - 4 = .5(x + 1)
