Power = (voltage) x (current)

IF the camcorder is TURNED ON, and IF it's running, and IF it's using the maximum power it should ever need from the battery, then the current it's taking from the battery is

Power = (voltage) x (current)

17 watts = (8 volts) x (current)

Divide each side by (8 volts):

Current = (17 watts) / (8 volts)

Current = 17/8 Amps

Current = 2.125 Amps
