It's not the worst comparison I've seen. And it's close enough that it warrants consideration.
ambitious implies driven, or has a single goal that a person's actions are devoted to.
Aspiring has a bit more of moral tinge to it. It is a goal that is considered good most of the time. I don't think you'd aspire to be a bank robber unless you were Bonny and Clyde.
