So here, we multiply the denominator, 2 times the whole number, 4, and then we add the numerator. So we have (3 x 4) + 1.

So we have 3 x 4 which is 12 and add 1 to get 13.

Finally, we put our new number over our old denominator and we have answer which is 13/3. So 4 and 1/3 can be rewritten as the improper fraction 13/3.
