Shays' Rebellion is the name given to an armed uprising in Massachusetts during 1786 and 1787. The rebels (called Shaysites) were protesting economic and civil injustices, including what they perceived to be high taxes. They were led by war veteran Daniel Shays. The rebellion is often cited as one of the catalysts for the Constitutional Convention and the creation of a new government.
