Answer: x = 1 and x = -7

Explanation:
x^2 + 6x - 7 = 0
x^2 + 6x + 3^2 = 7 + 3^2
(x + 3)^2 = 16
x + 3 = +-4 (square both sides)

x + 3 = 4
x = 1

x + 3 = -4
x = -7
