James Birney is a famous American politician from 19th Century. He had liberal views and is mostly know for his attitude towards slavery. Namely, he was a strong opponent of slavery and of the people who supported abolitionist movement the most.

Not only that he was a famous fighter against slavery but was also a presidential candidate on the elections in 1840 and 1844. His political career was interrupted in 1845 due to health issues.
