Madame Loisel is ultimately a catalyst that made both the internal and external conflicts in the story.Madame`s Obsession with her own society life, luxury and her fixation to pity herself as someone who deserves alot more than she already has.
The conflict is that Mathilde loses the necklace and has to give up the one thing she has to give back.
