The Crucible is believed to be a tragedy because of its saddening content. The story involves accusation of former friends, revelation of the truth, and the internal struggle behind the main characters. There's a lot more that comes into play of why it's a tragedy but I know you probably don't want a 6 paragraph answer haha.
