The sum of two numbers is 62, and their difference is 8. What are the numbers?

assume the first number to be x. second number to be y. x being the bigger one.

x + y = 62               we'll call this equation one
x - y = 8                  this big boii is equation number two

now we eliminate them by doing ( equation one - equation two ) plz pay attention
x + y - x - ( -y) = 2y = 54
y = 27
 
substitute y = 27 into equation one and find x .  , now u have it
