A non-example of republicanism is care for the elderly and
the poor. In Republicanism, citizens are expected to be independent in their
performance of their duties and responsibilities of being a citizen of the republic.
In this type of government, even the poor and the elderly are expected to live
by themselves and be self-sufficient.
