A metaphor is a type of figurative language where something is described in terms of something else in order to explain the former thing by saying that it is like the latter. For instance, "Parrain is a modern day Socrates". Parrain is not Socrates but in using Socrates to describe Parrain, someone would think that Parrain is wise.

In using the term "Captain Crisp" therefore, the thing being described is shown to be crispy.
