A force due to mass of 100 kg is applied over an area of 1 cm × 1cm. Calculate the pressure on the surface.

We have,

  • Mass of object = 100 kg
  • Surface area of object = 1cm² = 1/10000 m²

We know that,

  • Pressure = Force/Area

We already have area but we dont have force, so let's calculate it first;

  • F = ma
  • F = 100 × 9.8 { Acceleration due to gravity, you can also take 9.8 as 10(approx) }
  • F = 980 N

Now, just put all of these values in the formula;

  • P = F/A
  • P = 980/1/10000
  • P = 980 × 10000/1
  • P = 9800000
  • P = 98 × 10^5

Thus, the pressure applied by the object is 980 pa.
