How can you prove that b - a is the negative of a - b

Because b - a could be, for example, b = 5 and a = 7. So if the question were to be 5 - 7 = -2, that would be b - a. If you swap it around, then the question would be 7 - 5 = 2, and that would be a - b. I hope this helps.
