The first person in history to run a sub-four-minute mile was the British athlete, Roger Bannister.

What did Roger Bannister do?

In the year 1954, Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in less than 4 minutes by running it in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds.

Even though he was the first one to do so, several others were able to do it as well with his record standing for only 46 days.
