Why did distance pose problems for British troops during the American Revolution?

Answer:

Many troops and supplies had to cross the Atlantic Ocean to get there. The British had a lot of logistical problems when they worked outside of port cities. The Americans, on the other hand, had local sources of manpower and food, and they were more familiar with and used to the land.
