What were the goals of US foreign policy in the Cold War?

By backing governments or rebel organizations that resisted communism, the United States sought to contain the growth of communism and, by extension, the power of the USSR.

This was done through providing supplies, weaponry, and occasionally even troops, like in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Isolationism and internationalism, which has dominated foreign policy since World War II, are two perspectives. Containment, deterrence, détente, arms control, and the deployment of military action, as in Vietnam, were the primary Cold War strategies.
