The Jewel of the crown was India because it had everything the British wanted.

The Jewel in the crown refers to India, this is mainly because during the industrial revolution India exported raw material to the British Empire and imported back processed goods, this let to a very favorable commercial exchange since processed goods back than much like today have a much higher market value.
