Well you basically state what your gonna be writing about in the essay, and pose a question that'll you'll answer later on In the essay. Hope this helps!
first you draw your readers attention with a thought provoking statement or question. then u introduce the topic. Then you make a thesis statement which basically states what about the topic you will be talking about throughout the essay. then just talk about the topic a bit more in the last couple sentences.
