Why was the sacrifice made by the soldiers at Gettysburg worth the price they paid

Sacrifices made at Gettysburg were worth it because they reinstated the Civil War and did not let it die out. This war resulted in the end of slavery and a huge change for American standards, though it would take another hundred years to reinstate former slaves' rights.
