A force is exerted on a 4.0-kg mass producing an acceleration of 3.0 m/s2. if the mass were changed to 2 kg, the same force would produce how much acceleration on the object?

We first find the force Fusing F = ma (one dimension).
F = (4 kg)(3 m/s2) = 12 N.
Then noting a F/m, we have for the masses m = 2 kg,
a == (12 N)/(2 kg) = 6 m/s2 ;
