I'm not 100% certain, but I think that because 121 added with 123 gets you 244, 121 is the smaller integer it is looking for for the answer.

x + ( x + 2 ) = 244 ;
2x + 2 = 244 ;
2x = 242 ;
x = 121;
x + 2 = 123 ;
The numbers( odd integers ) are 121 and 123 ;
