On the graph of the equation 3x+2y=18,what is the value of the y-intercept

1. Subtract 3x from both sides
2y = 18 - 3x
2. Divide both sides by 2
y = 18 - 3x/2
3. Factor out the common term 3
y = 3(6 - x)/2

3x + 2y = 18
You need this in y = mx + b form.

3x + 2y = 18      Original equation
2y = -3x +18      Subtract 3x from both side
y = -3/2x +9       Divide both sides by 2

The y-intercept equals b (y = mx +b) so the y-intercept = 9
