A collapsed lung or reduction in the volume of a part of a lung is known as Atelectasis.
There are two conditions related to lungs when lungs are collapsed, pneumothorax and atelectasis. When the air enters and the area between chest and lungs are totally collapsed the condition is called pneumothorax and when the collapse is only in part of the lungs then it is atelectasis.
