A colony was formed at Newfoundland by voyagers, mainly warriors and explorers from Scandinavia populary known as 'vikings'. They practised old pagan religion. They sailed by use of open boats propelled by oars, among the most efficient at sea, which was to their advantage as they used them to sail and raid foreign lands such as British Isles and France.
