RS + ST = RT

(5x-2) + (3x + 2) = 48

5x + 3x - 2 +2 = 48

8x = 48

8x/8 = 48/8

x = 6

RS = 5x - 2
= 5(6) - 2
   = 30 -2
  = 28

ST = 3x + 2
  = 3(6) + 2
= 18 + 2
= 20
