to get X by itself you first bring -7 over and get X/5=-1 then multiply both sides by 5 to get X=-5

I cannot be certain what your equation is, so
if you have[tex] \frac{x}{5-7} =-8[/tex] , then x= -8 times -2, or 16.
if you have [tex] \frac{x}{5} -7 = -8 [/tex] , then [tex] \frac{x}{5} = -1[/tex] , so x=-5
