The muscle fibers and the motor neuron that innervates them are called a motor unit.
The axon of the motor neuron branches out when it reaches the muscle and innervates multiple muscle fibers. This enables one nerve impulse to activate many muscle fibers and it helps to coordinate the contraction of muscles.
