Total area is 1680 sq. inches.

Area = width * height

I noticed that the figure can form 10 rectangles with a width of 14 inches and a height of 12 inches.

Area = 14 inches * 12 inches
Area = 168 sq. inches     ** This in only the Area of 1 rectangle.

To get the total area of the figure. Multiply Area by the 10 rectangles that can be formed in the figure.

168 sq. inches * 10 = 1680 sq. inches.
