If a circle has a radius of 9 and a sector defined by a 254 degree arc, what is the area of the sector

The answer is 179.451 or 1143π/20.

The arc is 254°.  A circle is 360°.  This means the arc makes up 254/360 of the circle.  We will multiply this fraction by the area of the circle, which is 

A = πr² = π(9)² = 81π = 254.34

81π(254/360) = 20574π/360 = 1143π/20 = 179.451
