Suppose you increase your walking speed from 5 m/s to 14 m/s in a period of 3 s. What is your acceleration?

Acceleration=dv/dt, or change in speed/change in time. Change in speed=final speed-initial speed=14-5=9 m/s, change in time is 3s. So acceleration=9/3=3m/s^2.
